As cute as this face is....it FREAKED me out this morning. I was lying in bed and at 6:30 am I lazily open my eyes and about jump out of my skin. I see his face inches from mine, breathing heavily. Apparently, Deacon knows how to open his bedroom door and this was his way of telling me he was up for the day. I was not ready for that!

Sleep

I've been meaning to do a post on Deacon's eccentric sleep habits for awhile now. He's been outgrowing his habits so I better write it now before I forget.

This first picture was around the time he realized he could get out of bed and we wouldn't be there watching his every move. He would play and play until he got so tired he'd fall asleep standing up.
He used to bring piles of junk into bed with him. Books, toys, and even his dirty hamper full of clothes. He would dump it in bed and sleep with them. See pajamas and other clothes in picture above.

One day he was having a hard time calming down, so I put him in the recliner and sang to him to get him to go to sleep. The next day I went to check on him during his nap and he had gotten out of bed and went to sleep in the recliner.

Notice the golf ball in his hand?

We finally had to lock his toy basket in the closet at nap time because there just wasn't room in his bed for him!

This day was the scariest sleep day ever! He took a FOUR hour nap! We don't know why and he hasn't done it since.

I've found him a couple of times with his hands behind his back. Hope this isn't and indication of a future in handcuffs!

Things About Deacon This Month

-The neighborhood kids leave their toys everywhere, so Deacon has pretty much taken this scooter as his own. In just 3 days he went from not even being able to pick it up to scooting right along.

-Deacon wet the bed twice this week. This is a little unusual considering we are NOT trying to potty train him! He just likes to take his pants off, strip off his diaper, and go pee pee all over his mattress.

-Deacon was sitting at the kitchen table when Nathan came down the stairs and walked around the corner. Deacon looked up and saw him and then said, "Hey. You!"

-His new thing is to grab Nathan or my cheeks and while smiling sweetly and pulling upwards, he says, "Head....off?" (I'm wondering if he thinks our heads come off as easily as his doll).

-Not sure where he learned this, but it is adorable. Whenever he is looking for something, he says, "____, where are you?" One day when he took is diaper off while I was on the phone I told him to go find it and bring it to me. He starts going from room to room, saying, "Diaper? Where are you?" In those cute little accents that toddlers have (where yar oooo?). He also says it for toys he is looking for.

-This month he officially learned all of his ABC's (last month he would struggle with confusing R and K, C and G, and W with M. He only knows the capitals, so we'll have to start working on lower case.

-When it's time to go upstairs and take a nap, he takes off running and says, "Race.....Mama?" So I start chasing him and say I'm going to race him upstairs. But as soon as he gets to the stairs he stops, cover his rear end with both of his hands and says, "Pinch....Bum?" So I'll say, "Yeah, you better hurry upstairs or I'll pinch your bum." But then he's frozen and won't turn his bum towards me so he just sits on the stairs Ü.

-He loves my digital alarm clock. He will stare at it for 15 minutes and tell me EACH time the minute changes by shouting out, "CHANGE!" I'm trying to teach him the numbers, but all he knows is 1 and maybe 7. The number 8 he always calls 'B' Ü.

-Anytime he hurts himself, he speaks in the third person. "Deacon hurt back" or "Deacon hurt arm."

-I guess I say, "No way" a lot because he is starting to pick up on it. But he always says it in a joking way. Such as, "Pants off? No way!" ((When I told him not to takes his pants and diaper off). Or he will have just gotten out of the tub and say, "Nuther bath? No way!

-He asks to watch George every morning. That's Curious George. He seems to 'get it' though because he always laughs at the funny parts.

-Nathan had to make a few trips to Home Depot this week while working on the sprinkler system. He taught Deacon how to say Home Depot, but it sounds more like Home Depoo.

-This probably isn't good, but he likes to read in the dark. We put him to bed around 7:45pm and he just stays in bed reading until he falls asleep. It still a little bit light outside at that time, but too dark to read. He learned how to turn the light on (he is over 3 feet tall!) last month, so we had to start unscrewing his light bulb at night. It would FREAK me out to wake up at 3am and see a light on and think someone was in the house....but it was just him. He would turn it on and then get back in bed and read until he fell asleep.

-There are some words he knows how to say, but he still pronounces them the way he did when he was just learning to talk. We're trying to crack the whip. He always says Hotter for Water, so we just keep saying "what? what?" until he says it how he knows he should.

I told Deacon it was time for lunch and he said he wanted a meat sandwich (sounds like "meet match"). Then I was headed to the plate cupboard and he asked for a green plate (reen plate).

Is he sydlexic? He laid these letters out and kept motioning to them saying "Deacon." I said what do they spell? And then he motioned again saying, "Mama."

Helping dad grill hamburgers. Deacon kept saying "shoot. flames." and spraying his squirter.

After swimming, he loves to strip naked. We wrap him in a towel and he will just sit and chill in the chair.
