"Gorby"

I heard Nathan calling Deacon "Gorby" today, and it took me awhile to realize why:

I don't see the resemblance.

Spider Boy, Spider Boy

"Pweease"

Mid August

Found some photos from mid-August when we shaved his head.

Before
Halfway

I didn't get a good "after" shot, but this video is from the next morning. He has an *incredible* appetite every morning. He eats two eggs, a banana, and toast....and he still wants more. We taught him to say "more" in sign language. You're suppose tap the tips of your fingers together, but the way he does it is by punching one fist into his other hand (like when someone is going to beat you up), so I actually feel kind of threatened Ü Like he's going to beat me if I don't feed him more.

ComforTILEable

Lately, he finds the tile very comfortable. This day, I was making a sandwich and gave him a bite of bread. He searched for a patch of tile, sat down and then laid back. At one point, he even had the calf of one leg propped on the knee of the other!

A different day, he purposefully got off my lap and went and laid down on the tile with his blankie. Rejection!

Pizza Time

Deacon *LOVES* to be up on the counter when I am cooking. He tries to climb up the dishwasher while grunting, but quickly discovers he can't get up by himself. Then puts his hands together and says, "Peeeez." I can't resist so I bring him up. Today (9/27) we made banana bread, but these pics are from earlier in September when we made pizza (don't let the lime, apple, and tomato throw you off Ü)
This photo reminds me of Even in The Garden of Eden....I can't resist forbidden fruit from a face like that!

No matter how stern I was with him, I could NOT get him to stop eating the flour!

The finished product:
I forgot the olives! Oh well, I found a yellow bell pepper in the back of the fridge and it tasted soooo good on the pizza!

You Know He Doesn't Watch Much TV....

You can tell he doesn't get to watch much TV by how enthralled he is by my exercise video.

They have upbeat music and he does a quick step with his feet and then the cutest little swaying to the beat:

Random Memories I've Been Meaning To Write Down

August-ish: Today we came back from our walk and entered through the garage. We keep an old Boombox/CD Player out there for when Nate's doing manly work on his motorcycle. There was a CD on the ground in the garage. Deacon walked over and picked it up. He pushed the correct button to open the lid of the CD player, and placed the CD in the player and then closed the lid. Who knew?!?!

Also in August: For the first time, I let Deacon ride in the basket portion of the shopping cart. I wish I had my camera. I watched as he stretched out, drank from his sippy cup, and then nonchalantly started eating from a bag of grapes lying next to him. The only thing missing was someone with palm fronds to waive cool air in his face; then he would have looked like a prince. Awww, that last line just reminded me of a poem I wrote for him shortly after he was born. Totally bawled my eyes out while writing it. Maybe it was a really great poem, or maybe I was full of postpartum hormones. We'll never know because our computer crashed that week and erased it. Should of blogged it, eh? It would still be here Ü.

In early summer (before it got too hot to actually be upstairs during the day), I was upstairs folding laundry in my room. Naturally Deacon was playing around with laundry baskets. I was humming and then I decided to turn on the clock radio since I never listen to it. Deacon was pretty close to it and he started crying with fear and hugging me. He has since gotten used to it and even knows what button to push (the big one) to turn it off.

ADORABLE!!

Just warning you that this is the most adorable thing ever and you will watch it over and overÜ

We taught him how to say 'please' and he puts his hands together like he is begging.

Raspberries

Listen close and you'll here the "ppppfbbbttt" of Deacon blowing raspberries on N8's tummy Ü

Deacon Can Say His Age

More video of our trained monkey. It only took 5 minutes and 12 marshmallows for Nathan to teach Deacon to hold up both of his pointer fingers and say "Wah-Wah" (one-one) whenever someone asks how old he is.

Deacon Can Name His Body Parts

He had already done the routine a couple of times before I grabbed the camera so he wasn't as interested anymore. Ü

Bowling

I made some fun toys for Deacon this week. I found the ideas on the Internet. One idea was to fill plastic bottles with water and food coloring and let him use them as bowling pins (make sure they are sealed tight!). He has several different balls that he tries to knock them over with. As we help him set them up, we try to teach him the names of the colors.

He got tired of using them for bowling, but he has been playing with them everyday since and has come up with a lot of new ways to use them. He takes them EvERywHerE! (which is comedic to watch because if he's holding two and tries to pick up a third, he ends up dropping one....and so on, and so on).
Guess we finally have a use for the wine rack!
I also sewed some bean bags from old fabric and cut off the base of a milk carton so he could practice tossing the bean bags into it (no picture though!).
