Deacon fell down outside and hurt his knee. He stood up and while walking tried to bend his head down and kiss his knee. I got him to recreate it once we were in the house. This time lying down in all his naked glory.

Can you guess who dressed Deacon for the luau, uh...I mean church? Nathan didn't see a problem with Deacon wearing this shirt to church so I asked Nathan if he would ever wear a Hawaiian shirt to church Ü. He looked so cute though.

Nathan and I both noticed this blackberry on Deacon's tooth at the same time and busted out laughing. He had no idea what we were laughing at but started laughing with us.

Deacon received a new pair of PJs from Grandma for his birthday. He proudly yells, "supe!" (as in Super Man) each night when it's time to go to bed.
He LOVES the cape and even when I detach it, he still wants to sleep with it. He holds it up and says, "fly, fly."

5 Minutes.....

I could not believe my ears on this day when I told Deacon it was time to take a nap! He held up his hand and sweetly said "Fiiiiiive Minutes". I called Nathan right away and see if he had taught him that. Nathan recalled that the day before he asked Deacon if he was ready for a nap and Deacon said "no" (naturally). So then Nathan said, "Okay, you have five more minutes." From that, Deacon must have learned that 5 minutes is a reprieve of some sort.

I've mentioned before how much I love the blog "No Time For Flashcards." One week she had a super easy recipe for popcicles (one very ripe banana, some yogurt, some milk, and some frozen spinach). We received some popsicle molds for our wedding and have never used them---I knew I held on to them for 6+ years for a good causeÜ. Deacon absolutely loved them and points to the freezer calling them "pop".

Nathan made some a week later, but this time used canned spinach. HAHAHAHAHA! Let me tell, you canned spinach is a lot saltier and mushier! The popcicles were so brown and we called them POOPcicles!

Deacon is obsessed with my hair ties (yes, these are the ones from the 80s that I only wear in the privacy of my own home). I keep them on the doorknob of my closet door, and he will take them all off and put them on one arm. It's so cute when he names off the colors as he pulls them on and off.

Nathan made pumkin spice cookies with chocolate chips (soooo moist and delicious). Deacon was his helper and licked the paddle clean. How come he never licks his dinner plate this clean?

I LOVE-love-LOVE this picture of Deacon. He looks so sweet and you can almost tell how long and beautiful his eyelashes are.

I think he looks like his cousin Bo in this one.

His cheesy tooth grin that he discovered a couple of weeks ago.

Birthday Boy!

Just a FEW of the silly shots I got while trying to take a picture of them. I think they feed off of each other's zaniness.

This is the foam alphabet puzzle he got for his birthday. His favorite letter is 'W'. He pronounces so clear! He cries out for it (double-yoooo, double-yooo, over and over) every night as we are putting him in to bed. No other letter. Just his 'W'.

He LOVES to "help" in the kitchen. On this day I was already done cleaning and had left the room. I heard him go get a dry rag out of the cupboard and push his little purple chair up to the counter and just start wiping up.

Hoop Ball!

Nathan received a new lunch sack from the hospital. Deacon is convinced it is a hat.
The only problem is, he pulls it on so tight that he cannot get it off by himself. He reminds me of that little girl with the foil hat in Signs. Ü

He found out the springs in the couch are A LOT bouncier if the cushion isn't absorbing all the action. So he pulls the cushion off and proceeds to bounce around on this car thing. He totally looked like a bull rider with one hand in the air and everything.

Well, we just couldn't wait until Deacon's birthday to get him his present. I've been looking at our local online classifieds for a used basketball hoop but they all had descriptions like "sun faded with a hole in the base" or "missing the hoop and ball" or base won't hold sand or water"----and yet they all wanted $20 for their hoops. I found this one at Walmart online for $20 and it cost $5 to ship it to the front door. He loves it!

Nathan taught him how to slam dunk....

R.I.F. and Keys/Cellphone

Deacon's first words in the morning are usually, "Eat! Eat!" (screaming). But this morning, he couldn't wait to sit down with the new books we got from the library. One about trains (choo choo) and one about basketball (hoop ball). When I told him it was time to eat, he went and hid under the table with his books to read.

Deacon found Nathan's old hat and wanted to wear it to church. Luckily we distracted him and got out the door without it. However, as soon as we got home, it went back on his head while he ate his lunch (we take his church shirt off so it won't get dirty) and then down for a nap!

Deacon got a hold of Daddy's keys and cell phone on a different Sunday.
He "unlocked" each of the doorknobs in the house. Even the ones that had no lock (like the utility closet). For some reason he thinks the keys goes into the screw at the base of the doorknob. Oh yeah, then we couldn't find Nathan's keys for almost a week and he had to borrow mine. We finally found the keys in his treadmill fort.
The cell phone picture reminds me of a story on a different day. Nathan lets Deacon play with his cell phone all the time, but I refuse to let him have my phone because I'm afraid he'll dial someone. One day I was in the other room and I hear, "Hello, hello, Deacon is that you?" Deacon found my cell phone and called my dad AND somehow put it on speakerphone. So, he's never called anyone on Nate's phone, but the very first time he got a hold of mine he made a call to Grandpa Ü

Nuts!

Deacon LOVES trail mix and calls it 'nuts'. Truthfully, I think he just loves the M&Ms and chocolate chips that are in trail mix. He loves to sit outside with his little baggie of trail mix and pick out all the sweet stuff. Most of the time he will eventually go back and finish off the nuts, but sometimes he doesn't. When I ask him what he wants for lunch, he always says, "nuts".

Another nutty story: We always try to use "First-then" sentences with Deacon. For example: First put on your shoes, then we can go outside. Or, first eat your dinner, then we will take a bath. On one particular day Nathan was telling Deacon he needs to eat lunch. Deacon pipes up and says, "Then nuts?" Except in his cute little voice it was more drug out like, "thennnnnnn nuts?" Precious Ü

I'm usually soooo good about putting the chairs up on the table so Deacon can't get them, but this day I didn't and he drug the chair over to the counter and grabbed a stick of butter I had set out to soften. Two seconds! Two seconds! That's all I was gone! When I came back, he was munching on it.
He was NOT happy that I took it a way.

Deacon loves to drag the blankets off the "guest bed" downstairs (I'm sure you've seen it in the background of pictures, it looks more like a mattress on the floor of a crackhouse). He drags them to us saying, "Ride? Ride?". So after the trial run down the stairs last week in the sleeping bag, Nathan used that to give him slippery rides around the house.

It doesn't happen very often, but sometimes Deacon will wait patiently by the door while I get stuff together before going grocery shopping. I LOVE that he just chills with his hands in his pocket. And yes, he wore the headband to the store WITH his hoodie on. I'm sure people thought I was training a little gangsta. He will not smile unless I tell him to say 'cheese'. If I just tell him I'm taking a picture, he will look at me with the most solemn face (see last picture).
